Ever since the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot, story has had an increased focus for the franchise. That will hold true for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11, which is set to have a time-bending story mode featuring Kronika the Keeper of Time as she attempts to bring order to the universe. Some of those looking forward to Mortal Kombat 11 may be wondering about how long the game’s story will last, and now we have a better idea.
Dominic Cianciolo, story director for Mortal Kombat 11, recently spoke to the publication GameReactor to discuss the game’s story. When asked how long the story mode was, Cianciolo didn’t provide a straight answer, saying, “I can roughly estimate how long the cinematics and everything are but I can’t tell you exactly how long the story mode will be.” However, a representative for NetherRealm later claimed that the story mode in Mortal Kombat 11 will be around eight hours long.
This would be more or less on par with what we’ve seen in the story modes from other NetherRealm titles since the Mortal Kombat reboot. The story modes in the Injustice games also last for around the same amount of time as well, and so it’s not surprising that Mortal Kombat 11 is following suit.
Anyone who feels that an eight hour story mode is too short should rest easy knowing that Mortal Kombat 11 will likely have plenty of additional content for fans to sink their teeth into. Besides multiplayer functionality, Mortal Kombat 11 is set to included a variety of different game modes, plus plenty of cosmetic gear for players to unlock and customize their characters with.
NetherRealm hasn’t revealed much about what additional game modes Mortal Kombat 11 will bring to the table, but traditionally the series has had a Tower Mode and some other options. There will likely be some live service style modes as well that will mix things up with daily and weekly challenges, but again, NetherRealm has yet to provide too many specifics.
With Mortal Kombat 11 set to launch in just over a month’s time, NetherRealm will likely reveal more details about all its game modes in the coming weeks. This should include new roster reveals as well, so fans should stay tuned.
Mortal Kombat 11 launches April 23 for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
