Conor McGregor taunted a silent Khabib Nurmagomedov during their heated first face-off ahead of their title showdown at UFC 229.

Nurmagomedov and McGregor finally came face-to-face at a press conference in New York on Thursday night, and resumed their bitter rivalry in person.

McGregor attacked Nurmagomedov’s character, his family and his heritage in a tense press conference that saw the Irishman fire off at will in front of the gathered media.

Without a live audience, the atmosphere was slightly strange as McGregor took aim at his rival and Nurmagomedov decided to largely stay quiet.

Dana White revealed the decision to hold a closed press conference was due to the fear of McGregor’s and Nurmagomedov’s brawling in the crowd.

And the UFC president was worried about things kicking off during the face-off, as he pleaded with McGregor not to touch Nurmagomedov.

‘I’m not going to touch him but let’s get face to face. Let’s get close so we can look into the eyes, kid,’ McGregor said before turning his tongue on Nurmagomedov.

‘You’re dead, mate. You’re dead. You’re dead.

‘I can see blue lips. Blue lips. Where’s my belts? Blue lips. Breathe, kid. Take a breath.’
