Panthers 'contractually obligated' to keep Jerry Richardson statue at stadium

news-details

Jerry Richardson may be gone, but his presence will remain.

During Tuesday's introductory press conference, new Panthers owner David Tepper revealed he is "contractually obligated" to keep the statue of the former owner outside Bank of America Stadium as it stands.

Tepper's remarks came after his final question, allowing no time for a follow-up.

Richardson decided to sell the team after he was accused of workplace misconduct in December, including subjecting employees to sexual harassment and racial slurs. He released a statement thanking the organization as the sale was finalized on Monday but did not address those issues.

Tepper, founder and president of global hedge fund Appaloosa Management, L.P., purchased the team from Richardson for a reported $2.2 billion in May.
